The author, Karl von Eckartshausen is known for his work on Christian mysticism and believed Enlightenment was meant to be a collaboration between religion and science. At one point he joined the Order of the Illuminati, though "withdrew his membership soon after discovering that this order only recognized enlightenment through human reason." This particular volume is a complilation of sorts of Natural Magic and Hocus Pocus, with detail on cards and "household recipes." Boards and spine very worn, corners bumped and chipped. Hinges are somewhat weak and a few pages have spotting.
